Justifying Sex-linked Pricing

One standard size chicken will eat a full 40 lb bag of chick crumbles by the time it reaches 22 weeks of age. Depending on the breed and how early you can determine the sex, if male or female.

If a bag of feed is approximately $25, I have spared the sex-link chick buyer this expense for each male I do not sell her/him.

Add in litter and other miscellaneous expenses incurred while raising chicks.

We have saved the buyer all of the additional expense for the one-time of a higher pullet chick price.

Even if the pullet chicks were $20 each, this is still cheaper than a $25 bag of feed that would be extended to raise an unwanted male.

In the end, someone buying sex-linked pullets is coming out ahead, even if the pullets are priced higher!

1. Welsummers (auto-sexing)

2. Olive Eggers- (sex-linked) Welsummer/ Cream Legbar

3. Olive Eggers- (Sex-linked) Welsummer/ Whiting True Blue

   $18 per pullet
